My lazy Labor Day weekend
I just finished cleaning the apartment and I am a bit bored so I figured "hell, why not blog." I don't write on here much, and I never seem to blog about me, so I figure let me venture from the normal "this technology is cool" post and delve into my personal life.
I had a very fun, yet uneventful weekend. For me, this weekend was about relaxation, mediation, clarity and PHP. I've been trying to lay low lately and really focus on what my next move is going to be. I've been studying up on PHP and MySQL, reading a lot, tweeting more than people can probably stand right now, applying for jobs and planning my (eventual) move back to Boston. The flu also had me down and out for a couple of weeks; I am just over the past few days getting back to full speed. So, needless to say, I haven't been doing a lot of club or bar hopping, which isn't a bad thing.
Today, I finally went to a service at a Unitarian Universalist church. I have for the past...fifteen years or so attended baptist churches on and off. I have, since the age of six, had this struggle with organized religion and finding a church home which I felt matched up with my own spiritual walk and values, as well as had a mission that was in line with my personal passions and beliefs. I have left many a church who have preached about what clothes I should wear, how I am not in God's graces if I don't tithe, or that gay people are not equal to us because of their sexual preference. But, I think I have found a church I like. It reminds me of the church the Rivas family and I would attend when I was Alaska. I was also impressed that the minister was able to work into her service a really good speech about labor rights and the struggle for equality in the workplace while driving h.
Tomorrow I am thinking of going hiking around here. The great thing about living in Columbia Heights (or so I hear) is great access to trails in Rock Creek Park a few blocks away. It will be good to spend a day outside away from the hustle and bustle of Kenyon Square to get in touch with nature. Haven't been hiking since I left Alaska, which I am very ashamed to admit.
I haven't gotten to the point of planning my Monday night, but it will probably consist of me sitting in a cafe somewhere with my feet up reading a book. I am ADD when it comes to reading. I am concurrently reading 'The Defining Moment', 'Dreams from my Father', '7 Habits of Highly Effective People', 'The Power of Now', 'Beginning with PHP and MySQL 5', 'Drupal Pro Development', mixed with other random journals, white papers, and studies I have come across. I need to develop a reading plan to finish all of these up in the next month.
And somewhere in the mix of me finding my calling, planning a major move, learning two programming languages, building a small business, doing some independent consulting, volunteering, strengthening my faith, and helping a flurry of friends get websites launched/updated/maintained, I will need to find sometime to for dating. Life is a never ending flurry and I love it!
Good night folks.
