Riche Zamor's Biography
I am a online communications professional and all around internet junkie with a passion for using communications technology, especially open source software, to advance democracy, increase civic participation, and advocate for sustainable community development. I have worked in the social sector for almost 10 years as a campaign manager, community organizer, youth worker, fundraiser, online community manager, online organizer and database manager. I like to say I have had the pleasure of working in almost all areas of the nonprofit sector, and have a broad perspective of how the work we do fits together to build a better and stronger world.
I am currently working as a freelance online strategist, helping nonprofit organizations figure out the best ways to communicate their mission, values and message online. Over the past year I have worked with organizations such as the Jane Goodall Institute, InterAction, USAID, Mozilla Foundation, New America Foundation's Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and many others. During most of the 2008 campaign cycle I was in Alaska -- first managing the congressional campaign of Diane Benson, and shortly after moving on to work as Deputy Internet Director for the Mark Begich for U.S. Senate campaign. Prior to hitting the campaign trail, I worked as an online strategy consultant for Community IT Innovators where I provided online marketing and technology planning consulting services to a wide range of nonprofit organizations including Defenders of Wildlife, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, SOS Children's Villages - USA, and the National Recycling Coalition.
Outside of work, I try to stay active in the community and politics to give back to a country and community which has given me so much. I am a co-founder and original webmaster for DC for Obama, a citizen organization that worked in the DC/MD/VA area to help elect Barack Obama president. I've sat on the boards of or been involved with many community-based nonprofit organizations including National Black College Alliance, Project Hip-Hop, Word Up Magazine, Roxbury Youth Workers Alliance, and Mattapan Family Service Center. I volunteer with organizations seeking to better use technology to advance their cause to help them assess their goals and develop strategies for online engagement, and have held free trainings for nonprofits and social ventures through the Institute for Policy Studies' S.A.L.S.A. program.
I am a New Englander through and through, born and raised in Rhode Island and spending the later part of my teenage years and early adulthood in Massachusetts. While living in Mass, I obtained my BA in Community Planning with a minor in Community Media and Technology from the University of Massachusetts – Boston. I am also a SEMPO-certified SEO specialist and hold a certificate in Digital Field Production from the Boston Neighborhood Network, a Boston-based public television network. I currently reside in Washington, DC where I enjoy the endless wonders of the Capitol nightlife and networking with my NPO tech colleagues. I also enjoy lifting weights, reading about politics and transformative thought, watching a good action flick or sitcom, and spending time with family and friends.
